Introduction to LMCA Technology

The “One to One” learning program is defined as an environment where students and teachers have 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week access to an Apple MacBooks, as well as digital content, educational software, and digital authoring tools.

"Students now have more ownership in their education," says Mrs. Dee Mangino-Sullivan, Manager of Technology Education at LMCA. "They have a very powerful tool in their hands for gathering, preparing, and presenting information." The learning process has been changed. Students are collaborating in a whole new way. Our student body has become closer to one another. They share ideas and learn to work in a more “real life” environment. The days of quiet classrooms and boring lesson plans are a thing of the past.

Our students say they are "more productive" because of their Apple MacBooks, and even enjoy doing homework. As a whole, the computers have made our students more efficient.

Our Purpose

The purpose of LMCA’s Technology Plan is to ensure that students and staff are responsible digital citizens and effective users of technology in the teaching and learning process and are prepared for using technology in the pursuit of higher education and careers.

This purpose includes:

  • Providing access to technology to support the Nevada State standards
  • Providing instruction to foster competence in the use of technology and to deepen students’ educational experience
  • Providing learning opportunities using technology to meet individual student needs and to increase a rich experiences in our competitive world
  • Providing a digital environment for students, teachers, and staff to communicate, collaborate, and create

The purpose of technology at LMCA is to support achievement and empower all students through transforming teaching and learning. The goal of technology planning is to provide technology resources to support LMCA’s curriculum standards and create measurable objectives for technology integration. Technology is used to assist students in mastering their grade level standards and to prepare them for success in middle school, high school, higher education, and beyond as productive, digital citizens in the 21st century.

Safety

LMCA has partnered with InterGuard.com to add additional safety to our Apple “One to One” program on campus and at home installing Awareness Technologies InterGuard on the students MacBooks.

Awareness Technologies InterGuard Safety Control Software Includes:  

1)   Content Controls - Flexible content control allows you to select the types of websites that are appropriate.
2)   Program Controls - Control chatting, P2P File Sharing, and other harmful programs.
3)   Time Controls - Control the amount of time spent online, and the times when the internet is available/unavailable.
4)   Usage Logging - Create/review logs of websites visited, programs used on the internet, and Instant Messaging chats.
5)   Usage Alerts - Be notified instantly via email, text message, or phone call when someone visits inappropriate websites.

History

Did you know that for eight successful years LMCA students have enjoyed the use of Apple laptop computers? In 2007, LMCA selected Apple™ as its supplier for a “One to One” computer learning initiative targeting high school students. By 2008 we established a "rollout", renting computers to middle school students and a mobile lab for use by elementary students. This unprecedented step makes Lake Mead Christian Academy unique in the Henderson school community for this bold approach to a traditional education. Technology in the Classroom

Technology is ever-present, touching almost every part of our lives, our communities and our homes.  Effective technology integration is achieved when the use of technology is routine and when it supports curriculum goals.  The myriad resources of the online world also provide each classroom with more interesting, diverse and current learning materials.  Technology also changes the way teachers teach, offering educators effective ways to reach different types of learners and assess student understanding through multiple means.

Knowing this, LMCA changed the way elementary students access technology.  
LMCA has iPad labs for each classroom K4 through 4th grade, “One to One” iPad On-Campus classroom for 5th grade, a projector, an Apple TV and an iPad for every classroom on both campuses.
