History
LMCA began with 24 students in 1989 and 4 staff members. We are the first and oldest kindergarten through 12th grade private school in Henderson. LMCA continues to be lead by the founding administrator, Mrs. Sue Blakeley along with long term staff which contributes to the accomplishment of our mission and core values.
Enrollment
Lake Mead Christian Academy provides education and child care for infants through 12th grade. Our 2010/2011 total enrollment averaged 570.
Early Education(6-weeks to 4-year olds) 119 students
Elementary (K5 - 5th) 255 students
Middle School (6th - 8th) 89 students
High School (9th - 12th) 107 students
Each year a high percentage (ranging 86-95%) of LMCA's graduating seniors go on to enter colleges. A strong number qualify for scholarship opportunities. This is impressive when you consider that LMCA does not pretest students to qualify for admission. Our student base represents students of many ability levels. LMCA admits students of any race, color, nationality, and ethnic origin.
Organizational Affiliations
Lake Mead Christian Academy is a private Christian school which is overseen by a Board of Directors. We are registered as a Nevada corporation. We are recognized as a private exempt school by the Nevada Department of Education assuring that each grade level completed or credit earned is fully transferable. LMCA is a long-term member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). We are members of the Nevada Interscholastic Athletic Association (NIAA) Division AA for high school sports and members in other leagues for elementary and junior high sports. We are members of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce and actively participate in community events.
Campus
In 1995, LMCA was the grateful recipient of 5.6 acres of land by the LandWell Company. Two major building projects fully built out the campus with over 60,000 square feet of permanent buildings which include over 40 classrooms and offices, along with a commercial cafeteria, full service coffee shop, gymnasium and maintenance building.
Spiritual Life
LMCA is a non-denominational school with over 50 different area churches represented among our families and staff. Biblical principles are the foundation for all subjects taught at LMCA. All students attend daily Bible classes and weekly chapel services. We use the English Standard Version Bible for our Bible classes.
Financial Information
Tuition ranges from $4,680 - $6,410 annually which is typically paid monthly through automatic bank draft. Tuition alone does not meet the needs of the operating budget. LMCA depends upon the generosity of our families and friends through the financial component of our ProVision program. ProVision is community involvement at Lake Mead Christian Academy through three vital avenues- prayer, time, and finances.
Why does LMCA seek donations?
LMCA is a non-profit private Christian school that is financially and organizationally independent. We receive no funding from the government or any other entity. Since our beginning, we have set our tuition as low as possible to have a school culture of economic diversity. We try to strike a balance between offering affordably priced Christian education to families, while ensuring top quality staff, programs, and facilities. Part of this business decision is then dependent on the generosity of others to fund school improvement and special programs. Each year the financial gap between the cost of tuition and operating expenses can be met through donations.
Why should I give to LMCA?
A gift to LMCA is an opportunity to invest in the next generation. LMCA is a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization by the IRS and gifts are fully tax-deductible as allowed by law.
What are some current areas of need?
Computer Program: LMCA has a 1-to-1 laptop program for our 7th through 12th grade students. The students have a great technological advantage by using MacBooks throughout their academics. The cost of the individual computers is passed on to the students, but there is a huge expense to maintain the proper infrastructure.
Athletic Program: LMCA offers sports for 5th - 12th grade students. The cost of our athletic programs is partially covered by a student participation fee and relies on donations to balance the athletic budget.
Facilities: The busy schedule accommodated by our facilities results in the need for frequent reconditioning. Most building projects are greatly reduced in price or donated by local contractors.
New development: Another parcel of land double the size of our current campus is available nearby for future expansion to build academic, administrative and athletic facilities. This new project will cost over $20 million.
Apple 1-to-1
LMCA is committed to integrating technology in meaningful ways into our educational programs. We have a secured wireless campus to implement our 1-to-1 Apple MacBook program for students in 7th through 12th grade. We have 4 mobile labs used by 1st - 6th grade. All instructional staff utilize an Apple laptop computer for school and home use. All parents are connected to the school though ParentsWeb, a management program for academic, financial and social information related to LMCA.
Lunch Program
LMCA has a full service cafeteria and state-of-the-art cafe on campus to offer breakfast and lunch to our students, staff and parents. The food service programs are unsubsidized and are operated to cover the their costs.
Before and After Care
Eagle Kids Care (EKC) is the designated supervision for all students who are on campus outside of the regular school hours. Before and after school care is offered for an extra fee for the service.
